Martha Isaacs grew up raising ducks, chickens, and bobwhite quails in Baltimore County, Maryland, developing a love for animals from a young age. Her obsession with birding was sparked by watching wintering surf scoters off the coast of Montauk, Long Island. Mentored by eastern bluebird expert Katharine Patterson and the "Birdman of Ossining" Charlie Roberto, she has benefitted much from the birding community, including the NYC chapter of the Feminist Bird Club. She regularly birds in parks and coastal areas in the NYC region, and works as a transportation planner for NYC city government. Her favorite bird sighting so far has been an American Bittern in Cape May, New Jersey.
