Acclaimed birding advocate and television host Christian Cooper will be in conversation with bestselling author Jennifer Ackerman for a wide-ranging discussion about the wonder, intelligence and importance of birds in our lives. This event is as much for the avid birder as the simply curious!

About the Guests
Christian Cooper is the Emmy Award-winning host of the National Geographic series Extraordinary Birder and the author of the NY Times Bestseller Better Living Through Birding. He served as president of the Harvard Ornithological Club in his college days and advocates for greater, safer access to green spaces for all, with a focus on outreach to youth in underserved communities. His other work includes the children’s book The Urban Owls, published by Little Brown.
Jennifer Ackerman is an award-winning author who has spent more than 30 years writing about science, nature, and birds. A 2024 Guggenheim Fellow, she is known for blending scientific insight with compelling storytelling. Her latest book, What an Owl Knows, became an instant New York Times bestseller, and she also authored the bestselling books The Bird Way and The Genius of Birds.
About the Moderator
Jonese Franklin oversees all BirdNote broadcast and podcast productions, including BirdNote Daily, Bring Birds Back, and special series. Jonese has two decades of experience in public media – reporting, editing and producing stories. Most recently, she served as Program Director and All Things Considered host at 89.3 WFPL News in Louisville, Ky. While at WFPL she also co-created and produced two limited-run podcasts as well as a daily news podcast. Jonese holds a B.A. in Electronic Media from Morehead State University, in Morehead, Ky. She’s new to the birding world and excited about joining the community. She’s a big believer in the power of animals and nature to make us feel more grounded to our homes, and connected to each other. Jonese lives in Louisville with her wife, Laura, and their four dogs: Wendell, Lamar, Barkley, and Radar.
